Melissa Hope Sarah Brown
Melissa Brown is a documentary and portrait photographer whose work focuses on the nuances of Black life, identity, and memory. Working primarily in black and white, she uses a quiet, attentive approach to capture honest moments and the emotional realities that shape everyday experience.

Melissa earned her BFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design and is currently pursuing her MFA at Georgia Southern University. Her research explores representation, power, and the ways images inform public history—interests that connect to her work with the Georgia Historical Society, where she contributes to the preservation and interpretation of archival materials.

In February 2025, Melissa presented her first solo exhibition at the Sleeth Gallery, marking an important step in her growth as both an artist and scholar. She continues to build a practice rooted in care, clarity, and thoughtful storytelling.
